DKP system and values (submitted by Chelik at 05:58pm EST) 1) DKP and You. Altercation uses the 0-sum DKP system. Briefly, this means that players are rewarded an amount based on the successful distribution of items to members in the raid. Think of it as getting paid for successfully killing bosses. When items are given out (boss loot, trash drop, etc), the item has a value based on its equip slot, and that value is divided among the other members of the raid. You can find the item values below. Currently, ICC25 loot uses the full value listed, while ToC25 loot uses half the value listed. We currently apply no value to items given out on the "offspec" line, so no DKP is given out. DKP is generally updated after the raid to 1 day after the raid. 2) Loot Congratulations, a boss died, maybe. Cue cries of "server first" and "it's a miracle" and whatever else people like to say. Resurrect and rebuff the dead while the Master Looter walks over to the boss, clicks it, and either raid warning or raid chat links the loot that dropped. Look through the items quickly and decide which ones you are interested in so that we can continue raiding. Don't dawdle and make us wait. The idea is that you should have an idea of which items you want out of an instance. 3) "Bid DKP" For EACH item, the Master Looter will link the item, and announce "Bid DKP." This is the first step in distributing loot. Before the raid, you should check the DKP Standings page and make a note of your current DKP. If an item drops that you would like, when the Master Looter announces "Bid DKP," you will send them a tell with your DKP value. If people bid, then it's pretty easy, whoever has the most DKP wins the item, they get charged the corresponding amount, and other people in the raid receive their portion of the amount. Players are limited to one main spec item, per raid instance, per raid night, with 2 caveats: a) If all players bidding on item have already won an item for their main spec, then it will once again revolve around who has the most DKP. b) If a player has already won an item for their main spec, and they are the only person bidding on another item, then it will be rewarded to them and they will be charged as usual. 4) "Offspec roll," and what "Offspec" means. FROM THE DATE OF THIS POST FORWARD, ONCE THE MASTER LOOTER HAS ANNOUNCED "Offspec roll" NO MORE DKP BIDS WILL BE ACCEPTED. If no one has bid DKP on a particular item, then the Master Looter will move onto the next step, which is "Offspec roll." Items given out for "Offspec" cost no DKP and reward no DKP to the raid. Usually a flurry of rolls will follow. Here is the issue: offspec loot refers to the different roles characters can have in a raid, which are Tank, Healer, Physical DPS, and Caster DPS. Yes, this means that pure DPS classes (rogue, hunter, warlock, mage) cannot gain items on the offspec roll, as they can only provide 1 role to the raid, some version of the DPS role. The idea behind giving loot out on "Offspec roll" is to give players an alternative spec to play in a raid in the case the need arises, aka an emergency. Yes, the name is deceiving, as people (rogues) have complained that a weapon is superior for a different dps spec but not their current one, or casters trying to get some loot as a sidegrade. Tough cookies. Those people playing classes that have legitimate different roles should not attempt to cheat the system by attempting to take items or tier pieces on the offspec line when they are clearly intended for their main spec. It's going to be clear to anyone with an understanding of itemization when this is happening, and people are going to complain if they catch you doing it. 5) Tier Pieces/Trophies and "Offspec" Do not roll during "Offspec roll" on Tier Pieces/Trophies when there are clear deficiencies in the gear for your raid main spec. If you are still wearing 226/232 Tier Pieces or even lower equipment, and you attempt to roll on a Trophy, there are going to be problems. You should be using your DKP to buy these items to upgrade your main spec and to ensure your receipt of them, so that we can continue to gear our players for progression.
